Nollywood’s biggest box office name is going back to work. Funke Akindele has announced her next film project, titled “The Four: No One Fights Alone,” and confirmed it will open in cinemas worldwide on December 11, 2026.
The announcement comes just months after her last outing broke records at the box office, further cementing her reputation as Nigeria’s highest grossing filmmaker. This new title is produced under her own outfit, Funke Akindele Network (FAAN TV), and will be distributed by FilmOne Entertainment, the same company behind several of her past box office wins.
What “The Four” Is About
“The Four” is described as an emotionally driven drama built around friendship, motherhood and resilience. The story follows a woman named Esosa and three devoted friends who come together to fight for the future of a young man they love. Their bond is tested by fear, faith and loyalty as the story moves between a fictional community called Odu and the fast pace of city life.
Beyond the drama, the film leans into culture. Music, fashion, language and tradition all feature prominently, alongside cinematography meant to capture Nigeria’s identity on screen. It is a theme Akindele has built her recent career on, telling local stories that resonate with a global audience.
Star Studded Cast
True to form, Akindele has assembled a heavyweight cast for this outing. She stars alongside Bisola Aiyeola, Chioma Akpotha, Richard Mofe-Damijo, Timini Egbuson, Lateef Adedimeji, Ali Nuhu, Uzor Arukwe, Ronke Oshodi Oke, Antar Laniyan and Wunmi Toriola. Singer Waje and Afrobeats artist Shoday also feature, alongside media personalities Samuel Banks, Kolapo Omotosho and Ayomide Iwasokun.
Speaking on the project, Akindele explained that the film reflects where her audience is right now. She said fans have grown alongside her over the years and now expect stories that entertain while showing them a true reflection of themselves.
A Filmmaker on a Winning Streak
Akindele’s résumé speaks for itself. She has written, directed or produced a run of Nigerian box office hits including “Omo Ghetto: The Saga,” “Battle on Buka Street,” “A Tribe Called Judah,” “Everybody Loves Jenifa” and “Behind The Scenes.” Each of these titles has, at different points, rewritten what a Nollywood film can earn at the cinema, and “The Four” now carries the weight of those expectations into December.
With FilmOne handling distribution once again, “The Four” is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated Nollywood releases of the last quarter of 2026. Nollywood Life will keep you updated as more details, including trailers and premiere plans, are released closer to the December 11 date.
