Nollywood actress Chita Agwu has revealed that her 11-year marriage to her husband, Johnson Maduabuchi, has come to an end after the two of them were divorced by a court.
The actress revealed this in a statement which was posted on her Instagram Story on Monday, 19th October 2026. She said she was ready for a new chapter in her life, and asked the public to respect her privacy.
After careful consideration and a very personal process, I want to let the world know that my marriage has now been dissolved by the court.
Agwu said that the divorce is the end of an important chapter in her life. She said she had decided to go forward in peace, grace and dignity.

The actress stated that she wouldn’t discuss the private aspects of her divorce or be involved in public speculation regarding the circumstances that precipitated the divorce.
She said marriage is an individual journey, and not all of them will turn out as people had hoped. She also stated that people should be able to walk away without being judged, ridiculed, or humiliated.
“Due to respect for all parties involved, I will not be discussing personal information or any public discussions of the circumstances surrounding my divorce. I ask that my privacy and that of my former partner be respected.”
Agwu also expressed her gratitude to those who had been supporting her on her journey. She said she was making decisions on healing and growth to prepare herself for the next phase of her life.
“My marriage has come to an end, but my life has not been terminated in that way. I’m moving forward with my head held high, my dignity intact and my heart opened to the future.”

Agwu and Maduabuchi had their traditional marriage on October 25, 2014, and subsequently their white marriage in June 2015.
They were married for 11 years until they divorced. The actress has not revealed the grounds of her divorce.
Chita Agwu has made several appearances in Nollywood and is well known for her acting career.
The actress has announced a turning point in her personal life, but has also made it clear that she will not make the divorce an issue in the public forum.
