AMVCA Returns for 12th Edition, Ceremony Set for May 9

The Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards, or AMVCA, will return for its 12th edition this year. The main ceremony is set for May 9, 2026.

Organizers made the announcement on Thursday, March 26, 2026, at a press conference held at the MultiChoice Studio. They promised a bigger and more inclusive event to celebrate African films and television shows.

The AMVCA started in 2013. Since then, it has become one of the biggest awards events for African storytelling. It has also helped create more than 30,000 jobs in areas like production, logistics, and technical work.

This year, the focus will be on the people who work behind the scenes. These include writers, directors, editors, designers, and technicians who help build the film industry.

The 12th edition will have 32 award categories in total. There will be 18 categories decided by judges, 11 categories decided by public voting, and three special awards for lifetime achievement and trailblazer honors.

New categories this year include Best Indigenous Language – North Africa and Best Indigenous Language – Central Africa. These additions aim to recognize more cultures and languages from across the continent.

Veteran Nollywood actress Joke Silva has been named the head judge. She brings many years of experience in the industry to the role.

The nominees for the 12th AMVCA will be revealed on March 29, 2026. The announcement will be a live broadcast on Africa Magic channels. Actor Chiemezie Imo will host the nominee reveal.

Don Julio is the lead sponsor for the event. Other sponsors include Guinness and MTN.

The AMVCA continues to serve as a major platform to showcase African talent, celebrate creativity, and promote cultural stories from across the continent. Fans and industry people are already looking forward to the May 9 ceremony.
