This remarkable achievement establishes a fresh benchmark for Nollywood, surpassing previous records and solidifying Akindele’s dominance as one of the industry’s most commercially successful filmmakers.
Released nationwide on December 12, 2025, the film exploded out of the gates, shattering multiple opening-weekend records —including the highest single-day gross on Boxing Day — and quickly became the fastest Nollywood movie to hit ₦1 billion in West Africa (achieved in just 19 days). It overtook Akindele’s own previous hits like Everybody Loves Jenifa (which grossed nearly ₦1.88 billion) to claim the title of West Africa’s highest-grossing film of all time.

The movie’s sustained momentum through the festive season and into early 2026 highlights the massive audience love for its storytelling, star power, and production quality.

This is Akindele’s third film to cross the ₦1 billion threshold (following A Tribe Called Judah and Everybody Loves Jenifa), and with Behind The Scenes now pushing well beyond ₦2 billion, she continues to redefine what’s possible for Nigerian cinema.

The film’s success also reflects the growing strength of Nollywood’s theatrical market, driven by strong local content that resonates deeply with audiences across Nigeria and beyond.

In other box office highlights, Oversabi Aunty (produced and directed by Toyin Abraham) has climbed impressively to ₦863 million, positioning it strongly to cross the ₦1 billion mark in the coming days. Having already grossed over ₦711 million in just 18 days, it ranks as the fourth highest-grossing Nollywood film of all time in West Africa, showcasing Abraham’s directorial debut as a major commercial force.

Also, Colours of Fire (directed by Niyi Akinmolayan) wrapped up the weekend at ₦122 million, maintaining a steady theatrical run. The epic drama, which opened around Christmas 2025, has shown consistent audience interest with earnings like ₦102.7 million in its second week, proving its appeal in a competitive festive slate.
