Nigeria filmmaker, Funke Akindele has reacted to the ongoing conversation about how best to promote films in Nigerian cinemas. Her Instagram Stories posts appear to directly address recent remarks by fellow filmmaker Kunle Afolayan, who questioned the sustainability of relying heavily on dance videos and skits for marketing.
In a series of uplifting messages shared on her Instagram story today, Akindele encouraged creators to focus on their unique journeys instead of getting caught up in competition or envy. One of her post reads:
“If you can’t beat them or join them, create your own path. No allow jealousy burn you. The sky is so big for everybody to fly. Eyiin Werey jojo!!!”
She followed with another message emphasizing personal responsibility and forward movement:
“I’m not the one hindering your progress. Ka rin ka po, yiyeye ni n ye ni.”
Akindele also pushed for innovation and self-belief, writing:
“Go ahead and create alternative promotion or marketing strategies for promoting your business, or hire a company to handle it. You can do it! The opportunities are endless, and everyone has their own path. I’m focused on mine, and I have faith in God’s plan for me.”

This is coming after NOLLYWOOD LIFE reported Kunle Afolayan publicly stated that depending on physically demanding promotional tactics like constant dancing and skits is exhausting and that the industry needs fresher, less draining strategies to sell cinema tickets.
Akindele, whose box-office hits such as the “Jenifa” franchise and “Omo Ghetto: The Saga” have often been boosted by viral dance challenges and creative social media campaigns, used the moment to champion individuality and creativity over rivalry.
