Nollywood filmmaker Kunle Afolayan has shared his strong views on success in the film industry. He said he does not want 2 billion streams if it only brings back small money like 10 million naira. Afolayan made this statement at the watch party for his new project, “Anikulapo: The Ghoul Awakens.”

The respected director explained that he values quality storytelling, cultural preservation, and meaningful impact more than huge numbers on streaming platforms that pay very little. He believes true success comes from creating films that honor heritage and last for generations, not just chasing big view counts with low financial rewards.

This comment comes at the watch party for his new project, “Anikulapo: The Ghoul Awakens.” The event took place at his KAP Film Village and Resort. Many fans and industry people attended to celebrate the series, which started streaming on Netflix from January 30, 2026.

I’m not in competition with Ibrahim Chatta Says Kunle Afolayan

At the same watch party, Afolayan spoke about his relationship with fellow filmmaker and actor Ibrahim Chatta. He cleared up any talk of rivalry between them. Afolayan stressed that they are not competing at all. Instead, both men work together to protect and promote their shared Yoruba heritage and roots.

He said, “There is no competition between us. We are both doing everything possible to uplift the glory of all, not just our ancestors, but the lineage and where we are from, from the root. There is Afri Chatta in Oyo. If you have not been there, you should go. Many of the films you have seen, like Ageshinkole, were shot at Afri Chatta Resorts and Film Studio. There is no competition! We are not even doing the same thing. And this is the first time he is going to come here. Even though I have invited him several times, I am guilty too.”

Afolayan’s words show unity in Nollywood. He and Chatta both run film villages and studios that support local storytelling. They focus on building the industry and celebrating culture rather than fighting each other.
