Popular Nollywood filmmaker Kunle Afolayan has shared details of a heated phone call from actress and producer Funke Akindele. This happened after some controversy over his recent comments about movie promotion styles in the industry.

In an interview on Arise News on Sunday, Afolayan explained that his words were misunderstood. He had talked about not liking certain ways to promote films, like using dance routines in campaigns. Some people thought he was criticizing other filmmakers, including Funke Akindele.

Afolayan said Funke called him soon after. During the call, she told him, “I know you do not like me, but do not mention my name in your interviews.” He added that she was yelling and ended the call quickly.

The filmmaker described the moment as strange and surprising. He sees Funke like a sister. They have known each other since their days at the University of Lagos, where he used to visit her hostel, and her sister is also his friend. He stressed that he has no bad feelings toward her at all.

Afolayan made it clear that he never meant to attack anyone. He only shared his own preference for promotion methods. He praised Funke for her hard work and success in the industry, starting from her early days with Jenifa and building a strong brand over time.
