Rixel Studios has announced its new movie, “Black Market.” This is the studio’s second project after their 2025 debut, “Red Circle.”

“Black Market” was written by Abdul Tijani-Ahmed and Fatimah Binta Gimsay. The movie will premiere in Lagos on September 26, 2026 at Tafawa Balewa Square.

The premiere is set to attempt a Guinness World Record for the largest audience at a film premiere. The current record was set by the 2015 Filipino film “Felix Manalo,” which had 43,624 people watch it at the Philippine Arena. That screening also holds the record for the largest film screening overall.

Nora Awolowo, who leads the team at Rixel Studios, said they are excited to start this journey and have learned a lot from their first film. She said one of their goals as young filmmakers is to keep finding new ways to innovate.

Rixel Studios is working with Filmone Studios and Switch Visuals Production on the project. Together, they plan to host 50,000 people for a single screening of “Black Market,” in an official attempt to break the current record of about 43,000 people.

Ladun Awobokun, Chief Content Officer at Filmone, said the project means more than just a film to them. She said it is a chance to make history and show Nigerian creativity and Nollywood on a global stage.

Damilola Osikoya, CEO of Switch Visuals Production, said nothing inspires her more than seeing young people challenge norms and push boundaries. She said the project is close to her heart because it shows what can happen when bold ideas meet hard work and teamwork.
