Popular movie producer Kunle Afolayan has described YouTube as the future of Nollywood, while he also raise a red flag on how the platform is prone to piracy.

Speaking this past weekend on the Lagos-based One2One program (which was broadcasted over the Channels Television network, Monday), Afolayan lamented the increasing presence of YouTube in connecting Nigerian filmmakers via YouTube to audiences around the world, provided appropriate marketing and exposure are involved.

His opinion is clear as he said, I see the future of YouTube Movies. These sorts of films can receive an equal exposure as Netflix with proper promotion. even a person, sitting anywhere can watch it straight on their phone.”

This optimism notwithstanding, Afolayan noted that the open system on YouTube presents an easy target to copyright pirates and thus the continual challenge that the creative content still faces against its online theft.
