Popular Nigerian director Kunle Afolayan has thrilled fans by sharing the official trailer for his upcoming series Anikulapo: The Ghoul Awakens.
This exciting new chapter builds on the rich world first created in his 2022 hit film Aníkúlápó, which launched on Netflix and captured hearts with its blend of fantasy, culture, and drama.
The original movie followed the journey of Saro, a talented cloth weaver who comes back from death in a mysterious way. His revival sparks powerful events shaped by deep love, strong ambition, and the pull of great power.
After the film’s huge success, the story grew into a Netflix series called Aníkúlápó: Rise of the Spectre in 2024. That season explored what happened next for Saro, as he dealt with the heavy results of his return to life and the tough demands it brought.
Here are some captivating scenes from the previous installment, Aníkúlápó: Rise of the Spectre, that set the stage for what’s coming:
Now, Anikulapo: The Ghoul Awakens takes the tale even further. It moves the action from the kingdom of Oyo to distant foreign places, putting love through serious challenges and shaking up loyalties. The trailer teases that awakening power always carries a big price, and in this season, simply staying alive feels like the ultimate reward. Many long-held beliefs will face big questions.
The project brings back several beloved actors from the Anikulapo family, including Sola Sobowale, Bimbo Ademoye, Aisha Lawal, Eyiyemi Afolayan, and others who helped make the earlier stories so special.
Exciting new talent joins the cast this time, such as former Big Brother Naija star Okusaga Adeoluwa (known as Saga), popular comedian and actress Bukunmi Adeaga-Ilori (KieKie), veteran actors Antar Laniyan and Saidi Balogun, Teniola Aladese, and Ghanaian star Fella Makafui in a fresh role.
