Nigerian actress Ini Dima-Okojie announced on Wednesday that she and her husband are expecting their first child, sharing the news on Instagram in a post that quickly moved her fans to tears of joy.
The Nollywood star paired her announcement with a video and a heartfelt caption, describing the pregnancy as a gift she had long prayed for.
“I get to be a mother,” she wrote, adding a teary-eyed emoji that said everything words could not.
Her post was deeply personal. She spoke of God’s faithfulness, of grace, and of what she called perfect timing. She also quoted a Bible verse, Jeremiah 1:5, “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you,” making clear that her faith sat at the centre of this moment.
“My body is changing, my heart is expanding, and my life will never be the same again,” she said.
Why this announcement means more than most
For many followers, the news landed with extra weight because of something Ini shared publicly in 2020. She revealed that she had been diagnosed with uterine fibroids in 2017, a condition that affects many women of reproductive age across Nigeria and beyond.
Fibroids are non-cancerous growths that form in or around the uterus. While they do not always cause problems, they can make getting pregnant more difficult for some women. For Ini, who chose to speak openly about her diagnosis at a time when such conversations were rarely had in public, this pregnancy reads as more than good news. It reads as a breakthrough.
The reaction
Within hours of the post going live, congratulatory messages poured in from fans and fellow entertainers alike. Many described the news as a testimony, a word that carries deep meaning in Nigerian culture, pointing to a blessing that came after waiting.
Ini Dima-Okojie is one of Nollywood’s most recognised faces, known for her roles across film and television. But on Wednesday, the role her followers celebrated most was the one she is stepping into for the very first time: mother.
