Nigerian actor, Yul Edochie has urged film producers to cease producing films that show Nigerians misbehaving abroad.

Avoid Depicting Nigerians Misbehaving Abroad in Films Yul Edochie to producers,

He claims that making movies about Nigerians misbehaving abroad will only serve to denigrate Nigerians. On May 16, he made this statement in a post shared on his Instagram page.

Speaking further, he stated that Western filmmakers would never produce a picture in which a White man travels to Africa and causes trouble.

He wrote, “I wish our producers will stop making films where Nigerians travel abroad dey mumu. We sell ourselves short with such storylines.

“Oyinbo people will never make a movie where a white man is foolish on African soil. Instead, they’ll make the white man smarter than all the Africans in the movie. It’s intentional. They use movies to sell themselves as superheroes while we use ours to run ourselves down.”

He stressed that movie producers should rather make movies where a Nigerian goes abroad, and becomes the social point for Oyinbo people. He suggested that Nigerians should also be portrayed as superheroes as well, where we offer traditional solutions to problems and teach Oyinbo people beautiful things they don’t know about us.
