Nigerian actor and comedian Debo Adebayo, popularly known as Mr Macaroni, says he spent much of the night and morning in tears after reflecting on stories from people he has helped over the years.
The actor shared the emotional message on Saturday, September 26, following a series of accounts from people who recalled receiving financial support or opportunities from him.
“I cried so much last night and this morning,” Mr Macaroni said in a post shared on social media.
He said some of the stories had particularly affected him because they involved people he had helped without expecting anything in return, and in some cases, he had forgotten the assistance he provided.
The reaction comes as Mr Macaroni has also opened up about experiencing financial difficulties of his own.
The comedian said there were periods in recent years when he needed to ask others for financial assistance, describing one point in his life as a time when he was “on the verge of giving it all up.”
He said someone eventually helped him settle his debts, describing the intervention as one that gave him hope during a difficult period.
Mr Macaroni also acknowledged the support he received from people including music executive Don Jazzy, footballer Victor Osimhen and Pastor Bolaji, as well as members of his close circle.
The actor said the experience has not changed his view of helping others.
“I don’t and will never regret anything I have ever done in my life to make the lives of others better,” he said.
His comments have since drawn attention online, with several social media users revisiting accounts of the comedian’s generosity and the impact of his support on others.
