Nigeria Cinema Day is set to return on September 26, with participating cinemas across the country offering movie tickets at a reduced price of ₦3,000 for the entire day.
The one-day event will feature a wide selection of films, cutting across Hollywood, Nollywood, and international releases. Titles lined up for the day include The Odyssey, Mutiny, Insidious, Ikenga: The Last Festival, King Kosoko: The Battle for Lagos, Alahun, Properties of the Gods, By Any Means, and Mirzapur.
The initiative is coming from exhibitors who are looking for new ways to make the cinema experience more affordable and to draw more Nigerians into theatres. It is also aimed at pulling in viewers who do not regularly go to the cinema, as part of efforts to grow attendance beyond the industry’s usual audience.
Ticket prices in Nigerian cinemas have climbed steadily in recent years, and this has pushed some moviegoers to stay away or wait for films to stream online. Nigeria Cinema Day offers a way around that, giving people a chance to catch a movie on the big screen without paying full price.
With titles spanning action, horror, and drama, the lineup gives moviegoers plenty to choose from. Fans of Nollywood will be drawn to titles like Ikenga: The Last Festival and King Kosoko: The Battle for Lagos, while those looking for something different can check out Insidious or The Odyssey.
