At one of Africa’s most celebrated entertainment nights, a moment on stage stopped the room.
Lateef Adedimeji, one of Nigeria’s most prominent Yoruba language actors, accepted the Best Indigenous Language Film (West Africa) award at the 12th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards on Saturday, May 9, 2026.
At the live ceremony, he used the platform to deliver an emotional tribute to his wife and fellow actress, Mo Bimpe, who gave birth to triplets just one week earlier.
“This award is dedicated to the woman who made me chase my dream. The woman who gave me my three kings,” Lateef Adedimeji said, visibly moved, as the audience at Eko Hotel and Suites in Lagos responded with applause.
The award was for the film Lisabi, a production the couple both starred in. The win marks the second consecutive year the project has taken home the same honor at the AMVCAs. The film previously titled Lisabi: A Legend Is Born won the identical category at the 2025 ceremony, cementing its place in the awards history of African cinema.
The Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards, now in its 12th edition, remains one of the most watched entertainment events on the continent, drawing attention to the growing influence of African storytelling on a global stage.
For Lateef Adedimeji and Mo Bimpe, Saturday night represented more than an industry milestone. It was a convergence of professional achievement and deeply personal triumph, arriving just days after welcoming three children following five years of marriage.
